After Hours at the Speed

November 15 at 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Stay up late and celebrate the opening our latest exhibition, Tales from the Turf: The Kentucky Horse, 1825 – 1950, with us at the Speed! On the third Friday of each month, the Museum will be open until 10 pm. Each After Hours event comes alive with an eclectic mix of music, performances, cash bar + food available by Wiltshire at the Speed, and of course art! Come experience the Speed after hours like you’ve never experienced it before.

November’s exciting events include: 

5 — 7 pm: Hobby Horse Course and horse head art-making activity. Education Court

5 — 7:30 pm: Say hello to Gus, a special guest from Louisville Carriage Horses! Piazza 

5 — 10 pm: Table displays and information from: Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm,  PPAATH: Project to Preserve African-American Turf History, Bluegrass Land Conservanc, Keeneland’s Cross Gate Gallery, and Waveland State Historic Park in Lexington. Atrium

5 — 10 pm: Self-guided scavenger hunt and “Best in Show” activity in Tales from the Turf: The Kentucky Horse, 1825 – 1950. 3rd Floor North

5:45 and 7:30 pm: Two performances of Jockey Jim presented by Larry Muhammad and the Kentucky Black Repertory Theatre. Grand Hall

6 —7 pm: Handicapping 101: Learn how to pick winners at the racetrack from industry insiders Jim Mulvihill and Ed DeRosa of Churchill Downs. This seminar for novices will cover how to read the program, different types of wagers, and the steps that can help you find long-term success. Video of recent races will be shown to illustrate key concepts and guests can place “mythical” bets to win prizes from Churchill Downs and TwinSpires.com. Grand Hall

6:30 and 8:30 pm: Tours of Tales from the Turf: The Kentucky Horse, 1825 – 1950 with curator Erika Holmquist-Wall and curatorial researcher Johna Ebling. 3rd Floor North

6 — 8:15 pm: Speed Cinema screening of Parasite (Gisaengchung) (sold out) Cinema

7:30 pm: “Tack Room Talk” with Louisville Story Program, featuring readings from their new book, Better Lucky Than Good3rd Floor North

8 — 10 pm: Live band karaoke featuring “horse-themed” songs with Full Contact Karaoke! Check out the playlist and sign up to sing HERE. Grand Hall 

8:30 pm: Free cinema screening of Blue Grass of Kentucky (1950), the story of Blue Grass, a young Kentucky colt born and bred to become a Derby winner, and the people who’s lives revolved around him.
