Moulin Huet Bay, Guernsey, 19th century
William Trost Richards (American, 1833-1905)
Oil on panel
Gift of the estate of Mrs. Hattie Bishop Speed 1943.5

How much will it cost? $2,000

This spectacular little painting suffers from a discolored, mottled, and unevenly distributed layer of old varnish. It will all be removed, significantly improving the appearance of the painting. A small paint loss in the top center will be repaired and filled. The painting will then be revarnished with a stable synthetic resin. The result? There will be depth and a sense of space in the landscape. Trost Richards is known for his mastery of capturing rolling tides and gentle waves; his gifts will be even more apparent following treatment. Moderate improvement is to be expected.

A new frame is required before this painting can be reinstalled in the galleries. If you are interested in helping us with this endeavor, please ask us how you can help!
