Painting the Suburbs of Paris
Michel spent most of his career painting the countryside surrounding his native Paris, particularly the rural hills of Montmartre. In this panoramic view, extending to the River Seine and Paris in the distance, a turbulent sky dominates the scene. The weather threatens the quarry workers encamped beneath one of Montmartre’s numerous windmills.
