Speed Art Museum's Response to COVID-19

SPEED ONLINE

Dear Friends of the Speed:

At the Speed, we’ve been working to address and limit the impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus) for many weeks, and what we know and do about it (and what Louisville knows and does about it) seems to change daily.

The Speed is a place where people love to be and to connect, with art and with each other. At this moment, public health experts tell us that limiting physical contact may be the best way to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Because we want to do our part to promote public health and to “flatten the curve” that tracks virus cases, we have decided to close the Museum (including the Speed Cinema) to the public. Closure will begin Friday, March 13 at 8 pm and run until further notice.

Temporarily closing our building to the public does not mean we’ll stop being the Speed and fulfilling our mission to “invite everyone to celebrate art, forever.” We’ll be creating lots of videos and other content to share our art and exhibitions; to maintain a conversation around film; and to entertain and educate families and children while they’re out of school. Look for us on Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube as we work alongside other arts organizations in the community to bring you art at home.

If you have purchased a ticket to the Speed Cinema or for an event that has been canceled, we hope you’ll consider donating your ticket price to the museum; we’ll be needing your support more than ever. If you would prefer a refund (or exchange it for a future event) we will be happy do that as well. Please contact us at 502.634.2700 or via email at info@speedmuseum.org with any questions, concerns, or requests.

Because we know to expect further changes in this situation, please look for ongoing news and updates about the Museum through our regular channels, including our website and social media. Thank you for your support as we work together to help our community stay safe and healthy.

And be well,

Stephen Reily, Director
Brooke Brown Barzun, Chair, Board of Trustees
