Speed Camps

Week-long summer day camps offer a variety of fun, hands-on activities that encourage children to be creative thinkers, bold art makers, and playful collaborators. Unless otherwise noted, summer camps are for ages 6 – 9. Camps run from 9 am – 4 pm daily, with the option to add extended care from 8 am – 5 pm for an $50 additional fee per week.
$210 members/ $250 non-members/ $200 Patron Circle members.

Summer Camps at the Speed will meet in-person and will follow strict safety protocols.

  • We will check the temperatures of all campers and require them to sanitize their hands as they enter the Museum.
  • Campers will be required to wear masks at all times.
  • The classroom will be set up so that campers will be safely distanced from each other.
  • Each camper will be provided with their own individual set of art-making supplies to use throughout the week.
  • All surfaces will be regularly sanitized between uses.
  • Campers will be asked to wash and/or sanitize their hands frequently throughout the day.

If your child exhibits any COVID-19 related symptoms during their week of camp, they will be asked to stay home.

All summer camp instructors and assistants will also be required to follow these protocols.

June 14 – 18: Around the World
Traverse the globe and uncover art making techniques from different cultures – all without leaving the Museum. Campers will discover different parts of the world as they explore the Speed’s collection and create artworks inspired by their travels.

June 21 – 25: STEAM
Have you ever walked through the museum and wondered… Why do we see colors the way we do? What turns sand into glass? How does that sculpture stand up on its own? If so, this is the camp for you! Campers will connect concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math to dynamic works of Art for a week full of curiosity driven fun.

June 28 – July 2: I Spy
Are there secrets hidden in works of art? If you ever thought you knew all about your favorite masterpiece, think again. Discover new ways of looking, thinking and interacting with art and the world around us. I spy with my eye a week of observing, examining and campers creating their own mysterious masterpieces.

SOLD OUT July 12 – 16: Mural Camp (Ages 8-12)
Art is for the people! Join Louisville artist Jaylin Stewart to learn the ins-and-outs of creating public art. Campers will have hands-on experience designing, preparing, and painting a mural. Work together as a team over the course of this week-long camp to create something the whole community can enjoy! Please note: this camp is only open to ages 8—12.

July 19 – 23: Fashion Frontier
You don’t need to be a famous designer to flaunt your fabulous fashion sense! Inspired by the Speed’s special exhibition, Isabelle de Borchgrave: Fashioning Art Through Paper, this camp explores clothing design and construction using unexpected materials. After a week learning creative ways to express your own style, you’ll be ready to walk the runway!

July 26 – 30: Maker “Space”
What do art and outer space have in common? Stumped? They have no limit! Drawing inspiration from the Speed’s collection, they will transform a universe of art concepts into out of this world masterpieces. Budding astronauts will spend their week making, learning and transforming a universe of art concepts into out of this world masterpieces.
