SocialEyes: A Spring Like This

We live in strange times. At the start of 2020, you might have had some big plans for the future. And then suddenly, many of those plans were put on hold. If you feel like you haven’t done anything normal for a while, please join us.

Each 2 hour monthly event offers ways to check in with yourself, and other adults around you. In a casual space, where we can breathe and laugh, we discuss a single artwork in the galleries, focused on something you might have felt during the pandemic (isolation, disappointment, loss, etc.). Then we make our own art work, giving us a new perspective on your experiences.

“April and May were painful, lonely months for me because I couldn’t talk to you. I never knew that spring could be so painful and lonely. Better to have three Februaries than a spring like this.” Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood

Looking back on April and May 2020, hopefully we will never repeat a Spring like that. This workshop encourages us to see value in the time we’ve spent alone, because we can learn so much about ourselves. We will look at quilts from the 1800’s, which seem to have very little in common with our fast-paced lives. But we will create patchwork-inspired art using our cellphone photos from April 2020, using quilt patterns that reveal our true priorities.

You don’t need to be an artist. You just need to be a person who wants to make sense of these strange times we live in.

For safety, in-person workshops will be limited to 16 participants, ages 21+. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test are required to attend.
