For the 18th consecutive year, ShortsTV and Magnolia Pictures present the Oscar-Nominated Short Films, opening on Feb. 17th. With all three categories offered – Animated, Live Action and Documentary – this is your annual chance to predict the winners (and have the edge in your Oscar pool)! A perennial hit with audiences around the country and the world, don’t miss this year’s selection of shorts. The Academy Awards take place Sunday, March 12th.

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse
Directed by Charlie Mackesy and Matthew Freud

This tale follows a boy, a mole, a fox, and a horse, as they create an unexpected friendship and travel together in the boy’s search for home. U.K, 32 minutes.

The Flying Sailor
Directed by Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby

Inspired by true events, the highly anticipated new film is a meditation on a sailor’s unexpected voyage. Canada, 8 minutes.

Ice Merchants
Directed by João Gonzalez and Bruno Caetano

Every day, a father and his son jump with a parachute from their vertiginous cold house, attached to a cliff, to go to the village on the ground, far away where they sell the ice they produce daily. Portugal/France/U.K., 15 minutes.

An Ostrich Told Me the World is Fake and I Think I Believe It
Directed by Lachlan Pendragon

A young office worker uncovers the flaws in his stop-motion universe with the help of a mysterious talking ostrich.  Australia, 12 minutes.

My Year of Dicks
Directed by Sara Gunnarsdóttir and Pamela Ribon

This psychedelic and hilarious short is loosely based on Pamela Ribon’s experiences as a Houston teen trying to lose her virginity in the early 1990s. U.S., 26 minutes.
