Man on the Move
Pleasant Baird assembled or acquired the works for this clock. The Virginia-born Baird, like many who came to Kentucky in the early 1800s, lived a mobile life. He began his career as a watchmaker, silversmith, and engraver in Petersburg, Virginia, before moving to Natchez, Mississippi, and eventually to Kentucky. When he arrived in the state, he worked in Lexington before leaving for Paris, Kentucky, then Washington, Kentucky (near Maysville), and finally Maysville, located on the Ohio River.
