Boyd’s large painting of a lovely young woman dipping her toes into a Kentucky creek needs some serious time in the treatment laboratory. The overall appearance of this painting is marred by discolored varnish which needs to be removed, Further, sometime in the last century or more, several areas of enthusiastic retouching occurred, which has now discolored and become conspicuous to any viewer. The painting is lined to a panel and coated with a too-glossy natural resin varnish, which is slow to dissolve, making the process a bit painstaking.

Small cleaning tests, as indicated in the photograph below (you can see the bright white of her petticoat, and a much pinker hem of the dress) indicate that the cleaning would have a dramatic result.
