Just as Paris was transformed by urban planning during the nineteenth century, this fascinating etching documenting those changes to the city can be improved with your support. Maxime Lalanne was so proud of his etching that he used a delicate, tissue-like paper for printing. Unfortunately, ugly yellow stains and dark spots blemish the sheet, and old paper hinges that attach the etching to the mat distort its fine surface. The conservator will spot-treat the stains before washing the overall sheet and removing the old hinges. She will then flatten the paper under pressure to make sure it doesn’t warp or wrinkle.
