Methadone: An American Way of Dealing remains a timely film about how the U.S. deals with heroin addiction, circa the 1970s rise in addiction rates. It addresses how social services, designed to help, in fact often neutralize those they serve through the prescription of methadone to treat heroin/opioid addiction. By looking at multiple clinics and treatment programs, the film encourages viewers to question the deeply rooted social inequalities that give rise to drug addiction and the continued government sanctioned methadone treatment. 1974, U.S., DCP, 60 minutes. Recommended for 16+.

Cinema + Director Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar Julia Reichert will be present.
