GENERAL INFORMATION
- The Speed is open for School Tours Wednesday through Friday at 10:00 a.m. The first scheduled tour can begin at 10:15 a.m.
- To receive school tour pricing, reservations are required at least three weeks in advance for both guided and self-guided tours.

- Teachers and chaperones receive free admission. We require at least one chaperone per twelve students. Any additional adults who are not serving as a group chaperone will be charged $10 per person or $14 per person during Special Exhibitions.
- We have limited funding available to assist Title One schools with transportation costs. Please fill out the Bus Reimbursement form to be considered.
- The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, provides travel reimbursement funds to Kentucky schools for field trips to the Speed Art Museum with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. Please click on the Arts Council’s logo to apply. Applications for field trips from January 1—April 30, 2024, are open now.

Self-Guided School Tour

Enjoy the Speed Art Museum at your own pace as you explore and connect with artworks that take you around the world and across time. On a self-guided tour, teachers and chaperones can use the Speed’s collection and special exhibitions to activate experiential learning outside of the classroom. School groups can also visit Art Sparks, our interactive gallery (20 students may visit Art Sparks at a time).
Guided School Tour
- 1 hour
- Minimum 10 students, Maximum 60 students
- K—12
- $5 per student, $8 for Special Exhibitions
The Speed Art Museum’s school tours are designed to stimulate curiosity, build visual literacy skills, inspire students to connect personally with art, and help students explore the ways art relates to other subjects. Students will visit approximately six artworks during their Docent-guided tour and will participate in interactive gallery experiences.
Guided School Tour with Hands-on Art Making
- 2 hours
- Minimum 60 students, Maximum 90 students
- K—12
- $8 per student
The Speed Art Museum’s school tours are designed to stimulate curiosity, build visual literacy skills, inspire students to connect personally with art, and help students explore the way art relates to other subjects. Students will visit approximately six artworks during their Docent-guided tour and will participate in interactive gallery experiences. School visits are structured so that students take a 1-hour tour and participate in Hands-on Art-making in addition to time in Art Sparks, the Speed’s interactive gallery.
