“A work of genuine cinematic imagination and power.”—Christopher Llewellyn Reed, Film Festival Today

Reminiscent of the early films of Werner Herzog, The Tale of King Crab opens as Luciano is a wandering outcast in a remote, late 19th-century Italian village. His life becomes undone by alcohol, forbidden love, and a bitter conflict with the prince of the region over the right of passage through an ancient gateway.

When the quarrel escalates, Luciano is exiled to the distant Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego where, with the help of ruthless gold-diggers, he searches for a mythical treasure, paving his way toward redemption. However, in these barren lands, only greed and insanity can prevail. A selection of the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and the New York Film Festival. 2021, Italy/France/Argentina, DCP, in Italian and Spanish with English subtitles, 105 minutes.

Talk Cinema is programmed by the esteemed film critics and film curators Harlan and Susan Jacobson, featuring a sneak preview screening of an art house film prior to its release followed by a discussion. Be the first to see the latest films and to share your impressions.

Past films have included SpencerThe Worst Person in the WorldPortrait of a Lady on FireThe Two PopesThe FarewellMoonlightShopliftersThe Florida Project, and Lady Bird.
