Americana World Community Center: My Remix

Art makes an impact when the people who view it make a connection—to an idea or the artwork itself, to their neighbors or perhaps the people who live a bit farther away, or even to something inside themselves.

For this exhibition, the Speed Art Museum set a challenge for six middle-school students from Americana World Community Center: find yourself in an artwork from the Museum’s permanent collection and create a remix that represents you. In My Remix, the artists present interpretations of their inspiration artworks in a variety of media and ask us to imagine a world that is changed by their contribution.

Through the Community Connections program, the Speed Art Museum seeks to build and sustain extended relationships with local partner organizations through engaging and creative programming.

Americana World Community Center bridges the gap from surviving to thriving for Louisville’s refugee, immigrant and underserved populations by providing holistic services to build strong and healthy families, create a safe and supportive community, and help every individual realize their potential. They believe in human dignity, social justice, and that every human is created equal.
