SUMMARY:You Had to Be There at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Music + Film \nYou Had to Be There:\nHow the Toronto Godspell Ignited the Comedy Revolution\, Spread Love & Overalls\, and Created a Community That Changed the World (In a Canadian Kind of Way)\nDirected by Nick Davis \nWednesday\, October 21\, 7 pm CINEMA + | BUY TICKETS \n$12 | $8 Speed and LPM members | Free for students with valid I.D. \n“Exuberant and essential.”—Variety \nThis movie is a blast\, telling the story of how a cast of unknown comedians in 1972 Toronto\, including Martin Short\, Gilda Radner\, Eugene Levy\, Andrea Martin\, Dave Thomas\, and Victor Garber\, put on a production of Godspell that laid the groundwork for modern comedy. Paul Shaffer was even the musical director of the production. \nAll surviving cast members of the 1972 show appear in the film\, which is a delightful time at the movies chronicling the birth of the next generation of comic superstars. The film recounts a pivotal moment in comedy history in hilarious\, moving\, and inspiring detail. Executive produced by Judd Apatow. A selection of the Toronto International Film Festival. 2025\, Canada/U.S.\, DCP\, 98 minutes. Recommended for 15+. \nCINEMA + with a post-screening discussion by the film’s editor Doug Abel who is from Louisville. \nCo-presented with WFPK

SUMMARY:Possible Love (Ganeunghan sarang) at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Possible Love (Ganeunghan sarang)\nDirected by Lee Chang-dong \nFriday\, October 23\, 6 pm | BUY TICKETS \n$12 | $8 Speed members | Free for students with valid I.D. \n“Sharply observed\, bitingly political.”—Manohla Dargis\, New York Times \nAward-winning filmmaker Lee Chang-dong’s (Burning) heavily anticipated new film is a tale of deep yearning\, envy\, and grief. Every couple wants to find some sense of happiness. \nFor Ho-seok and Mi-ok the hope is to move on from the trauma caused by the disastrous outcome of a labor dispute. When they approached by young\, ambitious documentary filmmaker Ye-ji to take part in her latest project\, they become intimately intertwined with her and her business mogul husband Sand-woo. \nRevelation of interpersonal suffering come to light—both in front of and behind the camera—as the documentary develops\, and tensions between the couples start to rise. Questions are asked as to who gets to tell whose story\, who speaks for whom\, and what responsibilities observers have when taking on the perspective of the disenfranchised. As the lives of filmmaker and subjects become increasingly entangled\, tensions mount. \nThrough purposeful and layered storytelling\, Possible Love quietly surfaces themes of social class and power. Winner of the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival and South Korea’s submission for consideration for the Best International Film Oscar. 2026\, South Korea\, DCP\, in Korean and English with English subtitles\, 164 minutes. Rated R.
