SUMMARY:Rose of Nevada at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:35mm Print \nRose of Nevada\nDirected by Mark Jenkin \nFriday\, September 18\, 6 pm | BUY TICKETS \n$12 | $8 Speed members \n“Otherworldly\, unearthly\, dream-draped . . . a whisper of story\, suggests of fairytale and time travel\, but what makes Mark Jenkin’s films adhesive is exacting technique. Story is elusive\, but the fragments\, the instants are concrete.”—Ray Pride\, Newcity \nWeaving a hypnotic tapestry of bold analogue imagery\, spellbinding storytelling\, and mesmeric sound\, Rose of Nevada reinforces Mark Jenkins as a uniquely singular directorial voice. \nIn a forgotten fishing village\, a boat mysteriously appears in the old harbor. The Rose of Nevada\, lost at sea with all hands 30 years ago\, has returned.  For the few who remember\, it’s a sign. The Rose of Nevada must go out to sea again\, maybe then the luck of the devastated village will turn. \nNick (George MacKay) takes a job aboard the boat to provide for his young family. Alongside him\, newly arrived Liam (Callum Turner) joins the crew\, desperate to escape his past. They head to sea and after a successful trip return to harbor. But something is amiss. They’ve slipped back in time\, and the villagers greet them as if they are the original crew. 2025\, U.K.\, 35mm\, 114 minutes. Recommended for 16+

SUMMARY:Speed Together: Explore + Create
DESCRIPTION:Speed Together: Explore + Create  \nA monthly Sunday of art\, creativity\, and self-guided discovery\nSpeed Together is a free Sunday program that focuses on ART. This program offers the opportunity for families\, friends\, and first-time visitors to enjoy the galleries at their own pace\, take advantage of Docent supported learning\, or experiment with art materials in our open studios. Look for our welcome table near the front entrance to see what’s happening.  \nArt in the Atrium 1 – 4 PM \nVisitors of all ages are invited to make art in our light filled Atrium. Tables are stocked with the materials you’ll need to create your own work of art inspired by an artist or artwork in the museum. Accessible instructions are provided and a member of our creative making team is available to support. If you prefer to experiment and make your own thing\, be sure to visit our open studio in Art Sparks\, or try out both art experiences.  \nOpen Studio: 2 – 4 PM in the Prototype Lab (Art Sparks) \nA flexible\, drop-in studio experience designed for independent exploration and creative play. Open Studio offers a self-guided environment with accessible materials\, light prompts\, and space to experiment freely\, no instruction\, no pressure. Whether you’re inspired after exploring the museum\, continuing a project\, trying something new\, or simply looking for a quiet moment of making\, our classroom becomes your space to explore\, reflect\, and create at your own rhythm. All ages are welcome.  \nSpecial Programming:  \nCraft Circle \n1 – 2 PM \nWith historical roots in sewing and quilting circles from the 19th century\, craft circles served both rural and urban communities as a space to pass down generational skills\, discuss current news\, and work on collective or individual projects such as knitting\, mending\, or sewing.  \nThis month’s Speed Together is bringing out the scissors and fabric for a community craft circle\, open to all. Bring a project you’re working on\, invite a couple friends\, and join this casual circle of crafts\, conversation\, and connection. The only requirement is a willingness to share what you’re working on and enjoy a cup of tea if you’d like. Our circle facilitator will be available to help problem solve and brainstorm creative directions for your project. Materials are not provided\, participants must bring their own.
