SUMMARY:Summer Tour at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Summer Tour\nDirected by Mischa Richter \nThursday\, August 20\, 7 pm | BUY TICKETS \n$12 | $8 Speed and LPM members \n“Richter’s film is a thoughtful and loving tribute to an often-misunderstood group of fans.”—Robert Daniels\, RogerEbert.com \nThis free-spirited documentary follows young Jerray and Annie as they chase the Dead and Company’s final 2023 tour in a questionable camper van\, organizing their lives around the Grateful Dead’s music with intensity. They’re part of an intergenerational community who follow the band and have developed spiritual\, social and economic systems that are unique and supportive of a live committed to music\, dance\, and love. The focus is completely on the fans and not at all on the band. \nCo-produced by actress Cloe Sevigny (who once followed the Dead with director Mischa Richter\, Summer Tour does something rare and difficult: it takes easy targets and makes them full\, stubbornly human.  It’s the film the Deadhead fans deserve—sharp\, tender\, and utterly unwilling to apologize for its subjects.  A selection of the Telluride Film Festival. 2026\, U.S.\, DCP\, 82 minutes. Recommended for 17+. \nCo-presented with WFPK

SUMMARY:Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma\nDirected by Jane Schoenbrun \nFriday\, August 21\, 3 pm | BUY TICKETS \n$12 | $8 Speed members \n“Schoenbrun’s delirious third film is their most accomplished\, most persuasive and most playful movie yet.” –Jessica Kiang\, Variety \nVisionary director Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow) presents a new kind of horror remake in Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Bursting with imagination and surreal wit\, their latest genre-bending wonder affirms there’s no such thing as a guilty pleasure. \nAfter years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom\, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is due for resurrection. And one young director (Hannah Einbinder) is more than up to the task. But when she visits the original’s star\, a now-reclusive actress (Gillian Anderson)\, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire\, fear\, delirium — under threat from the spear-wielding Little Death. \nWinner of the Queer Palm\, this transformative Cannes favorite leads its protagonists to true fulfillment\, encouraging us to ask how we can reach our own. 2026\, U.S.\, DCP\, 111 minutes. Rated R.

Rated R.

SUMMARY:Speed Studio: Process + Practice | Legacy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n\n\nInstructor: Stephen Batiz\n“Moment in Time” \n \nLegacy Workshops is a new creative series for adults ages 60 and older that invites participants to explore art making\, connect with others\, and honor the magic of a creative practice. In this session we will invite you to take inspiration from Kentucky cabinetmaker William Lowry’s remarkable tall clock; participants will design and build a working clock with a creative twist. Like Lowry’s clock\, which has an element that transforms from a daytime to a nighttime scene\, your clock will have a transformation of its own. Using simple materials commonly found at home\, we will create one-of-a- kind functional artworks. No prior experience is required- just curiosity and creativity.\n\nWhile we will be leading a featured project\, participants are invited to bring small works from prior legacy workshops to continue creating in a shared studio environment.\n\nLearn more about the artist: www.stephenbatiz.com
