SUMMARY:Rose of Nevada at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:35mm Print \nRose of Nevada\nDirected by Mark Jenkin \nFriday\, September 18\, 6 pm | BUY TICKETS \n$12 | $8 Speed members \n“Otherworldly\, unearthly\, dream-draped . . . a whisper of story\, suggests of fairytale and time travel\, but what makes Mark Jenkin’s films adhesive is exacting technique. Story is elusive\, but the fragments\, the instants are concrete.”—Ray Pride\, Newcity \nWeaving a hypnotic tapestry of bold analogue imagery\, spellbinding storytelling\, and mesmeric sound\, Rose of Nevada reinforces Mark Jenkins as a uniquely singular directorial voice. \nIn a forgotten fishing village\, a boat mysteriously appears in the old harbor. The Rose of Nevada\, lost at sea with all hands 30 years ago\, has returned.  For the few who remember\, it’s a sign. The Rose of Nevada must go out to sea again\, maybe then the luck of the devastated village will turn. \nNick (George MacKay) takes a job aboard the boat to provide for his young family. Alongside him\, newly arrived Liam (Callum Turner) joins the crew\, desperate to escape his past. They head to sea and after a successful trip return to harbor. But something is amiss. They’ve slipped back in time\, and the villagers greet them as if they are the original crew. 2025\, U.K.\, 35mm\, 114 minutes. Recommended for 16+

SUMMARY:The Adele and Leonard Leight Series: Art\, Design and Innovation presents Dr. Lindsy Parrott
DESCRIPTION:The Adele and Leonard Leight Series: Art\, Design and Innovation Lecture series\nFree\, registration required \nFeaturing: Dr. Lindsy Parrott\, Director of the Neustadt Collection of Tiffany\nTiffany Lamps: Innovation\, Desire\, and Imitation \nREGISTER\nAmerican artist Louis C. Tiffany’s colorful lamps debuted in 1898 and were an immediate sensation: the artistic glass shades and elaborate bronze bases elevated these lighting fixtures to illuminated works of art. This lecture will trace the rise\, fall\, and revival of public interest in Tiffany lamps across the 20th century and consider the reproductions and forgeries that sprang up as the value of the lamps increased. It’s a fascinating story of innovation\, desire\, and imitation that casts a new light on these beloved lamps. \nAbout Lindsy R. Parrott: \nLindsy R. Parrott is the Executive Director and Curator at The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass based in Queens\, New York. During her 23 years at The Neustadt\, her research has centered on Tiffany’s lamps\, windows\, and mosaics. Working with The Neustadt’s one-of-a-kind Tiffany Glass Archive\, which includes approximately a half a million examples of opalescent sheet glass and glass jewels\, she investigates how American artists used these pioneering materials to revolutionize the centuries-old art form of stained glass. Lindsy has co-curated significant Tiffany exhibitions\, including Tiffany’s Glass Mosaics (2017)\, organized in partnership with the Corning Museum of Glass\, and Louis C. Tiffany and the Art of Devotion (2012\, Museum of Biblical Art\, NYC). The accompanying publications for both exhibitions received excellence awards from the Victorian Society. Lindsy’s current projects include co-curating the The Neustadt’s traveling exhibition Tiffany or Ti-phony? A Story of Desire\, which examines the rise\, fall\, and revival of Tiffany lamps and the forgeries they inspired. She is also a member of a stained-glass team surveying some 1\,200 windows at the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx\, New York—the largest survey of stained glass ever undertaken in America. \nLindsy earned her MA in the History of Decorative Arts through Parsons School of Design/The Smithsonian in Washington\, DC. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Art Glass Forum | New York. Early in her career\, she worked at the Morse Museum of American Art in Winter Park\, Florida\, an institution renowned for their comprehensive Tiffany collection. Lindsy has lectured and published widely on Louis C. Tiffany.

SUMMARY:Louder Than Guns at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Louder Than Guns\nDirected by Doug Pray \nThursday\, September 24\, 7 pm CINEMA+ | BUY TICKETS \n$12 | $8 Speed and LPM members \nIn the wake of yet another horrific mass shooting\, this time at The Covenant School in Nashville\, Ketch Secor\, lead singer of the popular country-bluegrass band Old Crow Medicine Show\, decided it was time to speak out on gun reform. He felt compelled to write an op-ed in the New York Times entitled\, “Country Music Can Lead America Out of Its Obsession with Guns.” It caught the attention of Ketch’s friend\, public radio journalist and former Morning Edition host David Greene\, and the two set out to kickstart an open dialog about gun rights and gun violence in America. \nFilm director Doug Pray followed Ketch and David as the band toured rural and urban communities\, creating the documentary Louder Than Guns\, named after a song Ketch wrote for the victims of the Covenant shooting. \nKnown for their signature song “Wagon Wheel\,” Old Crow Medicine Show attracts a wide demographic of music fans\, stretching to the furthest ends of today’s culture wars. People in the front row of their concerts might not agree on anything besides the music they love\, providing this film with one of modern America’s rarest opportunities: the chance to engage with one another respectfully\, despite our differences. \nLouder Than Guns brings together the frustrations and hopes of citizens who are asked to listen to one another and try to find common ground on this profoundly American issue. Led by Ketch and David\, these emotional and inspiring discussions\, in barbeque joints\, barbershops\, church pews\, gun stores\, and concert halls\, prove that localized\, community-led discourse has the power to move the needle on gun reform in ways that today’s polarized media and politicians rarely achieve. \nThe goal is to use the film as a tool to generate a healthy discussion in this country and to move the needle on gun violence in the name of public safety. 2026\, U.S.\, DCP\, 89 minutes. Recommended for 15+ \nCINEMA+ With a post-screening discussion with director Doug Pray and journalist David Greene. \nCo-presented with WFPK
