SUMMARY:Listen to Me at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Listen to Me\nDirected by Kanika Harris and Stephanie Etienne \nSunday\, June 14\, 3 pm\, CINEMA+ \nFree\, first come\, first served \nListen to Me follows three Black women as they navigate the journey to motherhood in a system not built to protect them. What begins as a documentary about the pregnancies of maternal health advocates becomes a powerful archive of grief\, resilience\, and healing. \nWoven together\, these unique stories offer a profound look into the complex and layered lives of Black women and the core issues that place them at higher risk for complications from pregnancy and childbirth. Through intimate storytelling and wisdom passed from mothers to daughters\, Listen to Me transcends statistics to reveal the quiet costs of survival\, the weight of advocacy while grieving\, and the audacity of joy in the face of systemic harm. \nListen to Me is a powerful call to break generational silence and center the voices of Black women. Through a life-course lens\, the film reveals that true maternal health begins with how we protect\, listen to\, and honor Black women and girls long before they ever become pregnant. \nThe film challenges us to shift the narrative from crisis response to generational care and to reimagine maternal health as a continuum of justice\, healing\, and radical listening. 2025\, U.S.\, DCP\, 77 minutes. Recommend for 15+ \nCo-presented with the Kentucky BIPOCU Filmmakers Association (KBFA)\, Black Birth Justice\, and Ed Hamilton Studio & Visitors Center. \nCINEMA+ featuring a post-screening discussion with co-directors Kanika Harris and Stephanie Etienne joining virtually moderated by Black Birth Justice Executive Director and Founder Meka Kpoh in-person.\nWe request donations of baby diapers and wipes to be shared with mothers in need. \n

SUMMARY:Sitting Still at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Sitting Still\nProduced\, written\, and directed by Gina M. Angelone \nThursday\, July 16\, 6 pm  CINEMA+ | BUY TICKETS \n$12 | $8 Speed\, American Institute of Architects Central Kentucky Chapter (AIA CKC)\, Kentucky American Planning Association (KAPA)\, Kentucky Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA KY) members \nSitting Still explores the life and work of Laurie Olin—one of the world’s most influential urban designers and his profoundly social vision. Hailed as a modern-day Olmsted\, Olin has transformed the design of public space and paved the way for future design leaders. \nThis rare\, intimate documentary portrait invites viewers inside the mind of a brilliant and irreverent iconoclast—to see what he sees\, feel what inspires him\, and hear his urgent call to confront the environmental challenges shaping our collective future like never before. \nSitting Still brings into focus the critical issues which have defined Olin’s life and work: urbanization and our lost connection to nature\, economic marginalization\, and the grave importance of humanity in design. \nIn a time when global values increasingly reflect “profit over people\,” Olin’s motivation has always been to create a more democratic and egalitarian society through healthy\, shared public space. Environmental and human stakes have simply never been higher. In many ways\, the most pressing challenges of the natural environment and social disunity can be healed through the power of landscape. \nSitting Still invites the voices of other design luminaries into the conversation\, including architectural visionaries Frank Gehry and Billie Tsien\, and esteemed landscape designer and artist\, Walter Hood\, among others. 2024\, U.S.\, DCP\, 93 minutes. Recommended for 15+. \nCo-presented with AIA CKC\, KAPA\, and ASLA KY. \nCINEMA+ With a post-screening discussion with a representative from Olin Studio via Zoom. \n
