SUMMARY:Tokyo Story at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Faith on Film\nTokyo Story\nDirected by Yasujiro Ozu \nSunday\, September 27\, 3 pm CINEMA +\nFree\, first come\, first served \n“[Tokyo Story] ennobles the cinema. It says\, yes\, a movie can help us make small steps against our imperfections.”—Roger Ebert\, Chicago Sun-Times \nA profoundly stirring evocation of elemental humanity and universal heartbreak\, Tokyo Story is the crowning achievement of the unparalleled Yasujiro Ozu. The film\, which follows an aging couple’s journey to visit their grown children in bustling postwar Tokyo\, surveys the rich and complex world of family life with the director’s customary delicacy and incisive perspective on social mores. Featuring lovely performances from Ozu regulars Chishu Ryu and Setsuko Hara\, Tokyo Story plumbs and deepens the director’s recurring theme of generational conflict\, creating what is without question one of cinema’s mightiest masterpieces. 1953\, Japan\, DCP\, in Japanese with English subtitles\, 137 minutes. Recommended for 12+. \nCINEMA + with a post-screening discussion with Sensei Jissai Prince-Cherry from the Louisville Zen Center.\nCo-presented with the Center for Interfaith Relations\, host of the nationally renowned Festival of Faiths and year-round programming that celebrates unique faith traditions that enrich our community. Join us for the 30th Festival of Faiths November 11-13 with the theme of Sacred Courage. Go to https://festivaloffaiths.org/ for tickets and more information!
