SUMMARY:SGVAP Presents: FIELD TRIP– A Community Led Bus Tour of Louisville’s Black Architecture and Cultural Landmarks
DESCRIPTION:October 17th \n12pm – 4pm \nSpeed Art Museum \nAhead of Brandon Ndife’s forthcoming exhibition\, the Sam Gilliam Visiting Artist Program invites community members to co-lead a bus tour of architecture and public spaces significant to Louisville’s Black cultural history. Inspired by “Claiming Open Spaces\,” a 1996 documentary by Austin Allen about public parks told from the perspectives of the African American communities who use them\, this program archives and educates people on the way Black Louisville life has shaped and been shaped by the built environment of the city. In this contemporary era of mass gentrification and land theft that has worn away predominantly Black communities nationwide\, this program rejects that erasure and offers local community members\, scholars\, and artists a moment to historicize their landmarks themselves. \nEach location on the bus tour has been pre-selected by community stewards to educate us on their chosen location and will allow for a non-traditional collection of sites and locations. Some of the sites chosen have been Shawnee Park\, Portland Memorial Baptist Church\, Flock of Finns\, Parkland Library\, and more! \nTo archive Louisville Black public space filmmaker Imani K. Dennison has been commissioned to join this tour and turn FIELD TRIP into a short documentary.

SUMMARY:Unzipped at Speed Cinema
DESCRIPTION:New 4K Restoration\nUnzipped\nDirected by Douglas Keeve \nSaturday\, October 17\, 6 pm | BUY TICKETS \n“An insider’s view of the fashion world that’s hip\, light\, authentic\, revelatory\, and always amusing.”—Emanuel Levy\, Variety \nDesigner Isaac Mizrahi proved a force of nature on the road to his legendary fall 1994 collection\, a career-defining triumph that was documented with an effervescent intimacy by Douglas Keeve\, Mizrahi’s then-partner. Both a time capsule of the buoyant\, raucous 1990s\, when pop culture and high art became interchangeable\, and a vérité-style\, in-the-trenches report on the daily agonies and ecstasies of the creative process\, this seminal artistic portrait—sumptuously shot by Ellen Kuras and Robert Leacock—transcends glitz and glamour to offer an extraordinary view of the charisma and force of will inherent to genius\, as well as its personal costs. 1995\, U.S.\, 4K DCP\, 73 minutes. \nDigitally restored by the Sundance Institute and UCLA Film & Television Archive. Funding provided by Isaac Mizrahi Entertainment. Laboratory services by Roundabout Entertainment\, Inc. and Deluxe Media Audio Services.
