“An un-sensationalized look at the moral compromise in opioid-era Appalachia.”—John Defore, The Hollywood Reporter

Braden King’s adaptation of Carter Sickels’ novel The Evening Hour premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to great acclaim. Shot in Harlan County, Kentucky, the film focuses on the effects of the opioid crisis in a rural community—particularly a young man working as a nurse as he tries to navigate his future.

Cole Freeman (Philip Ettinger, First Reformed) maintains an uneasy equilibrium in his declining Appalachian mining town, looking after the old and infirm in the community while selling their excess painkillers to local addicts to help make ends meet. But when his old friend, Terry Rose (Cosmo Jarvis, Lady Macbeth), returns with dangerous plans that threaten the fragile balance Cole has crafted, his world and identity are thrown into disarray. 2020, U.S., DCP, 114 minutes. Recommended for 17+

CINEMA+ Followed by a Q&A with director Braden King.
