“Riz Ahmed proves, yet again, to be a galvanizing screen presence, taking center stage.”—Keven Maher, Times (U.K.)
Mogul Mowgli is the debut narrative feature from award-winning documentary filmmaker Bassam Tariq. It follows the story of a rapper Zed (Riz Ahmed, nominated for an Oscar for his performance in The Sound of Metal) who, on the cusp of his first world tour, is struck down by an illness that forces him to face his past, his family, and the uncertainty of his legacy.
Ahmed co-wrote the script and delivers a taught performance that carries through every scene. Zed is torn between his traditional Pakistani heritage, the allure of international success, and the desire to imbue politics into his music. The urgency of his artistic mission is heightened when an auto immune disease begins to limit his ability to perform. 2020, U.K., DCP, 89 minutes. Recommended for 17 +
