SocialEyes: Matchbox Memento
We live in strange times. At the start of 2020, you might have had some big plans for the future. And then suddenly, many of those plans were put on hold. If you feel like you haven’t done anything normal for a while, please join us.
Each 2 hour monthly event offers ways to check in with yourself, and other adults around you. In a casual space, where we can breathe and laugh, we discuss a single artwork in the galleries, focused on something you might have felt during the pandemic (isolation, disappointment, loss, etc.). Then we make our own art work, giving us a new perspective on your experiences.
Art can help us remember important moments in our lives and honor important people who are no longer with us. For inspiration, we will examine memorial artworks as we tour the new exhibition, Supernatural America. Then we will create personal, portable memorials you can take home— small boxes to help you reflect on unsettled feelings about the past.
You don’t need to be an artist. You just need to be a person who wants to make sense of these strange times we live in.
For safety, in-person workshops will be limited to 16 participants, ages 21+. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test are required to attend.
