Inspired by the themes explored in Yinka Shonibare CBE: The American Library, the Speed Art Museum will host a Naturalization Ceremony for approximately 100 Louisville residents. This ceremony includes the Oath of Allegiance, signifying the end of the journey on the path to United States citizenship, after which an individual may register to vote and apply for a U.S. passport.
The path to becoming a U.S. citizen through naturalization requires five years of permanent residency (three years for the spouses of U.S. citizens) in the United States. Applicants must also pass the naturalization test, answer questions on background and application via interview and pass both an English test and a civics test, unless given an exemption or waiver.
This event is FREE and open to the public, and we encourage all to join us in welcoming and celebrating the achievement of these new citizens! Doors open at 9 am.
