SOLD OUT – Harlan Jacobson’s Talk Cinema Presents: Lady Bird

November 8, 2017 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Directed by Greta Gerwig

“As generous as it is perceptive about the strange business of growing up and into yourself.”—A.A. Dowd, AV Club

In Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a strict mother and her precocious teenage daughter. Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated, and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird’s father (Tracy Letts) loses his job.

Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home. A selection of the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.  Nominated for two Gotham Awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actress.  2017, U.S., DCP, 94 minutes. Recommended for 16+.

Talk Cinema is a national series programmed by the venerable film critics and curators Harlan and Susan Jacobson.  Each monthly event features a sneak preview screening of an art house film before its release, followed by a discussion.
