Family Day

Gather up your family and friends to join us at the Speed for Family Day! This celebration of Kentucky will provide art, entertainment, and fun for all ages. Listen to storytellers outside the Kentucky gallery, team up on a scavenger hunt, enjoy Bluegrass music, participate in a community art project, and chat with living legends and historical figures.

Join the Speed Art Museum educators for a literary adventure around the museum! This tour will link favorite children’s books with works in the museum’s collection to encourage language development and spark lively conversation about literature and art.


Sculpture Challenge: Horsin’ Around | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Art Sparks

We challenge you to create your own interpretation of Deborah Butterfield’s sculptures, Burnt Pine and Danuta, using only the materials supplied.


Locust Grove Historical Actors | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, moving through the Museum

Get to know Kentucky history up close by speaking with a person from 1816. Costumed and in character, interpreters from Locust Grove will be on hand to share their unique perspective on important local history.


Photo Booth | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Education Court

Come design your own props and take a photo as your favorite Speed work of art.


Storytelling with Peter Howard | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Prototype Lab in Art Sparks

Take a break between galleries to join the Louisville Free Public Library’s Peter Howard for stories the whole family will enjoy.


Imagination Playground Blocks | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Atrium

Let your imagination run wild and enjoy building with life-size blocks! Challenge yourself to recreate a sculpture from the Speed Art Museum’s collection.
