Citizen Girls! A Social Justice Book Club

August 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Today’s teenage girls are tomorrow’s world citizens, voters, and activists! Through education and inspiration, girls can be empowered, informed, and confident. We invite all teenage girls to join our monthly book club that tackles tough subjects like women’s rights, immigration, civil rights, the environment, and much more, in a safe space that is open for dialogue. Readers will interact with guest moderators, politicians, and community advocates, plus have opportunities to connect through art and activism. All girls ages 13-17 are welcome.

The book for August is Undaunted: A Memoir of Survival in Burma and the West by Zoya Phan. Our moderator will be Hannah Touchton, Cultural Exchange and Mentoring Coordinator at Kentucky Refugee Ministry.

Don’t have time to read the whole book but eager to join the conversation? Contact Eileen Yanoviak at eyanoviak@speedmuseum.org to get an excerpt.

For more information or to join the group, contact Eileen Yanoviak at 502-634-2719 or eyanoviak@speedmuseum.org.

General admission to the Speed Art Museum is free on Owsley Free Sundays. Books can be supplied to those in need.
