After Hours at the Speed

March 15 at 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Evening hours are back at the Speed! On the third Friday of each month, the Museum will be open until 10 pm. Each After Hours event comes alive with an eclectic mix of music, performances, cash bar + food available by Wiltshire at the Speed, and of course art! Come experience the Speed after hours like you’ve never experienced it before.

March’s exciting events include: 

5 — 10 pm: Speed Art Museum Store Pop-Up Shop – Celebrate Kentucky as we debut merchandise based on pieces by Kentucky artists featured in our permanent collection. Atrium

5 — 10 pm: Performance from Louisville Folk School Gallery 3

5 — 7 pm: Family Programming Activity: All ages can enjoy building their own clocks in honor of our latest exhibit, Making Time: The Art of the Kentucky Tall Case Clock, 1790-1850Education Court

6 & 8 pm: Speed Cinema screening of the 2019 CatVideoFest (tickets sold separately)

6 pm: Tour of Making Time with Curator of Decorative Arts and Design Scott Erbes Special Exhibition South

— Following the tour: Director’s Cut: Fabrication/Innovation: Museum director Stephen Reily in conversation with FirstBuild’s Larry Portaro and woodworker Billie                  Bradford, following the Making Time tour. Special Exhibition South

8 pm: Music performance by folk duo Joan Shelley and Nathan Salsburg Grand Hall 

9 pm: Performance by The Local Honeys Grand Hall

— Demonstrations of Kentucky ingenuity then and now with FirstBuild: The Forge Clear Ice System from FirstBuild, the innovation arm of GE Appliances, provides a superior ice experience. Its heated press shapes clear blocks of ice into Instagram-worthy spheres, and the accompanying counter top Clear Ice Maker will produce consistently clear ice in just hours. Demonstration in the Atrium. #Forgeclearice

— Sampling and demonstration from Jun Bug Probiotic Honey Soda: a distant honey based relative of kombuche, made using the heirloom Jun Culture, Organic White Peony White Tea-Cold Steeped in Ky Spring Water and sweetened with Raw KY Honey.
