This dashing gent would certainly win for most improved appearance, following conservation. This will be a dramatic reveal, if you’re into that sort of thing. Currently, there are visible tear repairs in the upper left and upper right quadrants. Thick layers of discolored varnish and a significant grime layer keeps this fellow looking rather unwashed. There are broadly applied areas of retouching in the background, near the tears. Treatment consists of removing the grime, removing and reducing the varnish, and retouching any areas of loss or abrasion as necessary. Tears will be assessed and re-repaired. A fresh coat of varnish will be applied to keep him looking spiffy.

The frame will require conservation, and will need to be assessed for treatment and a cost estimate. Let us know if you are interested in supporting the complete restoration of this artwork!
