Man Ray was an American visual artist whose career thrived in France. Working in many different mediums including painting, photography, and film, his works were tied to the Dada and Surrealist movements.

Embracing experimental film techniques, Ray involved his companion Kiki de Montparnasse in his early silent films Return to Reason (1923, France, 16mm, silent, 2 minutes) and The Sea Star (1926, France, 16mm, silent, 15 minutes). The earlier film featured animated textures and Rayographs of the torso of Kiki while the later film was shot from reflections of mirrors or diffused through glass giving the appearance of soft focus. Recommended for 13+.

Screened in conjunction with the exhibition Picasso to Pollock: Modern Masterworks from the Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University.
