Annual Fund
Annual support
from the community and our members is vital for the Speed Art
Museums growth. Major support of museum operations comes
from the Annual Fund, ensuring that the museums admission
remains free. The Annual Fund also makes it possible for the Speed
to enhance its overall level of programming and services through
a series of Connecting with the Community Initiatives.
These initiatives include an enhanced and interactive web site
project, new and exciting permanent collection installations,
and a variety of special exhibitions. Annual Fund contributions
will also help to underwrite community projects and therefore
make the Speed an even more integral part of the cultural life
of our community.
Donors to
the Annual Fund are acknowledged in the Annual Report and on a
plaque located in the Grand Foyer. In addition, a special gathering
of Annual Fund donors is held each year.
The Speed
Legacy Society
The Speed
Legacy Society represents, in a real sense, the future of the
museum. It has been established by the Board of Governors to encourage
individuals with charitable intent to support the museum by providing
for it in their financial or estate planning.
Membership
to The Speed Legacy Society can be accomplished in one of more
of the following ways:
- Including
a bequest for the benefit of the museum in your will or trust
- Participating
in a life income arrangement, such as a charitable remainder
trust
- Creating
a charitable lead trust for the benefit of the museum
- Naming
the museum as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy
Depending
on the form of your gift, your generosity to the Speed may provide
federal, estate, and gift tax advantages and, in some cases, income
to you. In addition, you will have the knowledge that your gift
will be a legacy for generations to come. In the course of considering
a gift, you should consult your own attorney or tax advisor.
In recognition
of their generosity, members of The Speed Legacy Society are listed
on signage in the museum in perpetuity and recognized in the museums
Annual Report and other publications. In addition, they are invited
to a special Society gathering each year.
Todays
donors can be assured that their gifts truly make a difference
to the future of the museum. Gifts can be directed toward purposes
such as building the museums endowment, art conservation,
acquisition of works of art, educational programs, exhibitions,
and special projects. There are a variety of giving techniques
which can be selected, based on a donors unique circumstances,
including bequests as well as planned gifts during a donors
lifetime.

Gifts
in Tribute
A
gift in tribute to the Speed Art Museum is a thoughtful way to
celebrate a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion, to
express sympathy, or to honor the memory of a friend or loved
one. When you make a gift in tribute, a personalized card in acknowledgment
is sent to the individual or family being honored. Gifts made
in tribute are fully tax deductible.

Gifts
of Art
Since
1927 when Mrs. Hattie Speed gave her art collection to help found
the museum, gifts of art have played an important role for the
Speed Art Museum. Throughout our history, these gifts have helped
to enhance the quantity and quality of our permanent collection.
Some of our most important works, including the Pablo PicassoÕs
ÒWoman in the StudioÓ and Mark ChagallÕs ÒWaiting,Ó have come
through gifts from generous individuals.

Grants
The
Speed Art Museum receives significant support in the form of grants
for the museum's operations and many program initiatives. Supporting
organizations include the National Endowment for the Arts and
a variety of other national and local foundations.
Corporate Matching Gifts
Most
companies offer matching gift plans to their employees, enabling
them to double their charitable gifts to a qualified non-profit
organization. Your personnel office can tell you if this benefit
is available and provide the appropriate forms.
Corporate
matching gifts multiply the value of your contribution and are
an important source of funding for the Speed.
Collectors Groups
Participation
in the Charter Collectors, Decorative Arts Collectors, or New
Art Collectors groups are also an important way to support the
museum and its growing permanent collection. Please see Get
Involved for more information about these unique groups
and other volunteer opportunities.
