Speed Opening Gala
The Speed Ball is the Speed Art Museum’s most significant fundraiser and is critical for the current, and future, success of the Museum.
With the opening of the new Museum in March 2016, the Speed Opening Gala will serve as the 2016 Speed Ball, and will be the inaugural celebration for the new Speed Art Museum, having been closed since 2012 for a $60-million dollar renovation and expansion.
The Speed Opening Gala will take place Saturday, March 5, 2016.
Dress is white or black tie.
A MUSEUM-WIDE CELEBRATION
Guests are invited to explore the entire Museum, to discover the cinema, galleries, exhibitions, and site-specific commissions that make the Speed Art Museum one of the flagship arts and cultural institutions of the region. The building will also be a canvas for continuous food, drink, comfortable lounges, entertainment, and engaging programming throughout – showcasing the rich arts, cultural, music and culinary scene of Louisville and the surrounding area. Between live music, performance art, dancing, and film, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
FOR THE EARS
Curated by Jecorey “1200” Arthur, the Speed Opening Gala will feature musical performances that are as diverse and powerful as the Museum’s exhibitions and collection. A multi-disciplinary music educator and performer himself, Arthur will bring together a one-of-a-kind collaboration of musicians and performers from Louisville and the region, appealing to all audiences, rhythms, and tastes.
FOR THE EYES
Teddy Abrams & friends and Louisville Ballet will be breaking boundaries by partnering to bring a special joint performance to the Speed Opening Gala. Art meets dance meets music in this exclusive and intimate piece that celebrates Louisville’s rich cultural fabric.
FOR THE PALATE
Together with Susan Hershberg and Wiltshire Pantry, the Speed Art Museum will be inviting top local chefs to provide unique and inspired food and beverages throughout the Speed Opening Gala.
