This lovely little picture suffers from poor color saturation. The varnish is aged and degraded, resulting in a surface haze that obscures the tiniest details. The varnish will be removed, and any areas of loss will be retouched as necessary. A full laboratory examination underneath the microscope is required, in order to determine the extent of the surface cleaning. The painting will then be resurfaced with a natural resin varnish to improve the appearance of color and depth.
