“A beguiling sense of dislocation is part of the film’s meditative charm.”—David Erhlich, IndieWire

Artist Andy Goldsworthy has spent a better part of his life incorporating the natural resources and environments he inhabits to create site-specific works that are in concert with nature. For example, he forms his image in a landscape by stretching across a sidewalk as rain begins to fall, leaving a dry silhouette when he steps up. These actions may be ephemeral if not documented. Goldsworthy has worked with director Thomas Riedelsheimer on this follow-up to the celebrated sleeper-hit Rivers and Tides (2001).

Leaning into the Wind continues the breezy, vérité portrait of the soft-spoken artist at work. Once again accompanied by an ambient music score by Fred Frith, the documentary captures an artist who embraces the impermanence of nature by creating stunning poetic works that stir the soul. A selection of the San Francisco International Film Festival. 2017, U.K./Germany, DCP, in English, Portuguese and French with English subtitles, 93 minutes.
