Cinematographer and filmmaker Haskell Wexler captured the social and political upheaval that the U.S. was experiencing in 1968 by embedding actors in action leading up to the Democratic National Convention. The film follows a TV news cameraperson tying to cover the economic and racial disparity and antiwar movement that would be so important during the convention. Wexler had anticipated that the convention would be emotionally charged and the drama heats up as violence erupts during the demonstrations. Mixing fiction with nonfiction, his film captures the zeitgeist of the time. 1969, U.S., video, 111 minutes. Rated R.
