“Absorbing, surprising, technically superb and worth talking about for a long time afterward.” —Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

Sister Helen Prejean’s searing memoir about her work as a spiritual advisor on death row inspired both this Oscar-winning film and an opera by Jake Heggie, to be produced in Louisville this October. Kentucky Opera, in partnership with the Louisville Bar Association, present a screening of this film in anticipation of Kentucky Opera’s second production of The 2017/2018 Brown-Forman Season.

Dead Man Walking is the powerful true story of a fight for redemption. Tim Robbins’ second directorial effort (after the political satire Bob Roberts) was this drama based on a true story, which explores the issue of capital punishment.

Susan Sarandon won an Oscar for her performance as Sister Prejean, and Sean Penn was similarly nominated for Best Actor as Matthew. 1995, U.S., video, 120 minutes. Rated R.

Co-presented with the Kentucky Opera. Kentucky Opera presents Jake Heggie’s Dead
Man Walking
on Friday, October 27 and Sunday, October 29. Tickets available at kyopera.org.
