“An absolute nail-biter.”—Anna Smith, TimeOut

This gripping new film focuses on the unforgettable 1980 tennis brawl at Wimbledon between Björn Borg and John McEnroe.  Danish director Janus Metz elevates the grueling physical courtside contest between the young athletes to a clash of cultures and definitions of masculinity.

Intense, gritty performances by Shia LaBoeuf as American tantrum throwing tennis rookie McEnroe and Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason, as the veteran, disciplined Swedish tennis ace.

Gudnason has recently taken over the role of Michael Blomkvist and is currently filming the newest chapter in the Stieg Larsson novel-based series, The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

A selection of the Toronto International Film Festival. 2017, Denmark, DCP, in English, Swedish, French, German and Spanish with English subtitles, 107 minutes.

This national series programmed by the venerable film critics and curators Harlan and Susan Jacobson, features a sneak preview screening of an art house film before its release, followed by a discussion.  The series occurs monthly through April.

Last year’s series feature such stellar titles as Moonlight (Best Picture 2017), A Man Called Ove, and 20th Century Women.

This year’s selections have included the Oscar-nominated hits The Florida Project, Lady Bird, and I, Tonya.
