“A quietly riveting stunner.” —Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times

Based on Haruki Murakami’s 1992 short story Barn Burningfirst published in The New Yorker, Burning is the searing examination of a relationship fueled by rage, confusion and thwarted desire.

The life of a frustrated, introverted young man, Jongsu (Ah-in Yoo), is complicated by his fascination for Haemi, a spirited childhood friend whose appearance back in his life offers romantic possibility. She asks him to watch her cat while she takes off to North Africa only to return with Ben (Steven Yeun of The Walking Dead, Sorry to Bother You), a wealthy and sophisticated young man.  When Jongsu learns of Ben’s mysterious hobby and Haemi suddenly disappears, Jongsu’s emotional turmoil and obsessions begin to mount, culminating in a stunning finale.

After igniting critical praise at its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, the film is taking the U.S. by storm this fall showing up on many best films of the year lists.  South Korea’s submission for consideration for the Best Foreign Film Oscar. 2018, Korea, DCP, in Korean and English with English subtitles, 148 minutes.
