Summer Art Camps "Speed About Town"

“My kids were wild about the Speed Summer Camps.
They were pampered with art and kindness!”

- a parent from 2009 Summer Art Camp

Let your budding artist’s creativity take shape….
Although the Museum doors are closed, the Speed Art Museum summer camps are “Speeding About Town!” and will be held at different locations in our community. Whether your child participates in drawing and printmaking or design and architecture, they’ll learn new skills, make great friends and have fun doing it! We design our classes to be small to enable maximum attention and ensure that every student’s voice is heard

Please know that Speed Camps do fill up very quickly.

For more exciting information please call 502.634.2974 or email camps@speedmuseum.org

ATTENTION! Please note that we are experiencing technical difficulties with registration for our Clifton Center Summer Camps. We apologize for this inconvenience but please contact Greg Penner, 502-634-2966 or gpenner@speedmuseum.org, for registration forms and payment.

Speed Museum Specialty Summer Camps at
The Clifton Center

Build It with Speed!

June 10-14, 2013
8:30a-12:00p

Come create and explore art with the Speed Art Museum

Architecture is all around us. If your child enjoys using their imagination to make and build, then this is the camp to choose. This camp will focus on mixing fun with architecture by exploring multiple aspects of design and construction. From present day to the ancient world and even fantasy, they will learn to build with an artistic flare and become exposed to different methods of fabrication. What makes this camp extra special? We will have several special guests visiting the campers. One of the scheduled special guests is Greg Gardiner, the Speed’s Director of Operations and Expansion. He is a Harvard graduate in architecture and is currently overseeing the Museum’s $50 million expansion. Mr. Gardiner will share a hardhat conversation with your child about what he likes about building and planning. The campers will wear official museum hardhats and have question and answer time.
Age Group: 3rd-5th grades.

Space is limited - Registration begins March 1, 2013
Members: $150
Non-Members: $175

Summer Camps are tax deductible

Art Studio: Collect, Curate, Create!

June 10-14, 2013
1:00p-5:00p

Come create and explore art with the Speed Art Museum

Your child will explore the role of a museum curator during this special Speed Art Museum camp. Just like the museum’s founder, Mrs. Hattie Bishop Speed, they can decide what and where their objects will be in their very own galleries! Campers will learn to handle, conserve, and look at actual objects. This camp brings art to life through fun and unique activities. Your child will have fun painting, printmaking, and drawing. What makes this camp extra special? We will have special guests visiting the campers. One of the guests is Scott Erbes, the Director of Collections and Exhibitions at the Speed. He will share a conversation with the campers about a curator’s duties. During this visit, campers will get to feel like a real curator by wearing white gloves and handling actual objects from the Museum’s teaching collection.
Age Group: 3rd-5th grades.

Space is limited - Registration begins March 1, 2013
Members: $150
Non-Members: $175
